Devoicing, 2019-2021
Using still photography to create silent sound, Devoicing is comprised of black and white silver prints created from 16 mm analog film stills. Language is abstracted and broken. The “sound” of moving film is used here not to create aural engagement, but rather to illustrate ruptures in language loss of meaning, and a desire to create a sense of order and unity.
